“There are remarkable things all the time, right in front of us, but our eyes have like the clouds over the sun and our lives are paler and poorer if we do not see them for what they are. If nobody speaks of remarkable things, how can they be called remarkable?”- Jon McGregor

My blog is devoted to such remarkable things, to the stories and poetry behind objects. In sharing their meaningful objects and their stories, the people I interviewed offer little pieces of memory, of laughter or of sadness, that in some sense capture a tiny slice of the poetry of their lives. The people in my project have chosen to share these stories with me and with you, to allow themselves to be passed along to strangers, and for that I am extremely thankful. It is my hope that these stories will, in some way, stir up your own memories and resonate with you as strangely familiar, and inexplicably beautiful. Click on the objects below to explore, or simply click the link to the (In)animate stories page to access the posts. Start with the guitar, if you would, then feel free to pick whichever one you like after that.
