Henry David Thoreau, perhaps the greatest nature enthusiast of his time, once wrote, “”We need the tonic of wildness…At the same time that we are earnest to explore and learn all things, we require that all things be mysterious and unexplorable, that land and sea be indefinitely wild, unsurveyed and unfathomed by us because unfathomable. We can never have enough of nature.” When talking to budding young artist and environmental activist Lyz Luidens, you will hear this passion for wildness pour out of her lips like some relentless waterfall. I don’t know where exactly she will end up, which mountain she will climb next, but I do know that these hiking boots, these extensions of herself, will come along with her.

If these boots could talk, they would tell of all the places they have seen- Texas, Shenandoah Valley, Wyoming, the Rio Grande–and the places they hope to see–every mountain range in the entire world.

Thank you Lyz. And this summer, we’re going hiking. It’s on my blog now, so it has to happen.

If the rest of you would like to join Lyz in spirit and take a visual tour of some of these mountain ranges, click the images below.
